First, it is Mia's last day of school for the year. Erica, Miss Maria's daughter, came today to join in the fun and take Mia to school.
Here are Mia and CJ at the start of the school year.
And here are the three kids today...
And, on top of the excitement surrounding school ending, we also got our new puppy today. Piper is a Portuguese Water Dog (same as the Obama's dog, Bo). She's already had an exciting life including a run in with a snake, but seems to be the sweetest, calmest, happiest puppy so far. Let's hope that continues. Welcome to the family, Piper!!

Happy Anniversary
Today, we celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary. Five years ago today was amazing, surrounded by so much love from friends and family. We have grown and changed in the past few years, but it has definitely only gotten better.
*For those at the wedding (or anyone curious), this was our first dance song. It was composed and sung by Mara's Uncle Win.

Our Little Reader...
As a parent, you always hope your child will have a love of learning. One of the most exciting ways Mia has shown this recently is in learning to read. She has really taken to it and even loves reading to CJ. This video is of Mia reading to Mommy before bed.

Commuting Buddy
Mia insisted I take her doll with me to work today. She said I needed to bring the doll so I wouldn't get sick because Mia wouldn't be at my work to take care of me. Clearly, I have a very caring daughter as this is one of her favorite dolls and she truly felt I needed her today, but what does it say about her belief in my own competency? Hmmmm.....

Halloween
The kids had a fantastic Halloween this year. We had the treat of Cousin Gaelyn visiting for the weekend while she looked at going to AU next year and the annual pre-trick-or-treating party at the neighbors' home. Both kids loved their costumes and each other's. We once again had very light trick or treaters at our house, but the left over candy got donated instead of eaten by the adults so it all worked out in the end...

Things That Make Us Smile
We have been noticing more and more how many of the little mix-ups of Mia's are disappearing. She's just getting older and learning how to do or say things in a more grown up way, but when they are gone we will miss the little things that just make us smile.
Here are a few:
Last day, this day, and next day instead of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Beyingying instead of beginning.
How her imaginary friend, Andara, is sometimes a baby, sometimes a big kid, sometimes Mia's age, and sometimes one of her dolls.
If she has been looking for you and has just found you, she says "I was looking for you, but you were nowhere to be found."
Thankfully, many things will not change with age, we hope, like the excellent friend she is to her brother, her love of learning anything anyone will teach her, and her fantastic surprise hugs and kisses just because she loves us.
So, in honor of our amazing not-so-little-all-the-time little girl, here she is in her personally styled outfit.

"First" Day of School
CJ is starting a new class today, which is basically a toddler playtime program once a week. He was so excited to get to go to school, but a little confused when Mia wasn't there. Once he saw the other kids, he didn't even care that I was leaving. Hope he's just as happy when I pick him up after lunch!

Sarah's Birthday
We celebrated cousin Sarah's 2nd birthday at the zoo. (Sarah's mom is Daddy's cousin.) We had a fabulous time and couldn't have had better weather or animal sightings. The best part was how much fun the kids had together. By the end of the day, Mia and CJ wanted to stay with Sarah and Sarah was trying to come home with us! The three did not want to be separated.
First we had birthday cupcakes and a little playtime on the grass.
Then it was off to see the animals together.

15 Months!!
Master Christopher is now 15 months old! We celebrated by going to the doctor for his check up. Sorry, CJ!
Stats:
Height - 31 inches (50th percentile)
Weight - 22lbs (16th percentile)
Head Circumference - 18 3/4 inches (64th percentile)
Activity:
CJ is into everything. He runs, jumps, plays, eats, and reads to be just like his sister. We think he truly believes he is already 3. The most fun part is that he talks more than any other 15 mo old I know of; as in sentences. He says "Read books.", "I want sit." (to sit in his booster seat), "I need help.", "Want more.", "No Mommy, I want Daddy.". Currently, his favorite word is "NO" even when he actually means yes.
Teeth-
We have 4 (two top, two bottom). The pediatrician says there are 4 on top that should pop through any time now and 4 more on the bottom that are right behind them. I'm really ready for these to come through and I think CJ is too! That being said, the kid can eat a whole apple and a regular chewable vitamin with no issue at all. The lack of teeth is not holding this kid back.
Finally, here is a picture of our big boy and his sister eating dinner at their table.

Meeting Adelaide
What fun it is to have a new cousin. On our way up north to the St Lawrence River, we stopped by Skaneateles to meet the newest addition to the family. Boy is she cute! Mia and CJ had a great time getting to know their new little cousin and enjoying lots of fun with cousin Ellie, too.

Musical Cousins
Mia and CJ had fun with their 2nd cousin Sarah at Nina and Taid's house. The love of music definitely runs in the family.
*Yes, that is CJ walking into the room with a balloon in his mouth. We've found our parenting pretty lax with the 2nd kid.

Kiawah
We had a fantastic week with Daddy's family in Kiawah, SC. This is were Nina and Taid used to take Daddy, Uncle Allan, and Aunt Katie when they were kids. Below is a slide show of our trip.
In addition, Mommy and Daddy went kayaking with Nina and Taid and got to see dolphins strand feeding. It was an amazing sight. You should watch this video on YouTube to see something similar to what we saw.

Mia's Stats
Mia had her 3 year check up with the pediatrician today. She is doing great.
Height - 36" (up 3 inches from last year)
Weight - 29lbs (up 4 lbs from last year)
She is now big enough to get her blood pressure taken and the vision tests attempted. While the blood pressure and Random Dot E (RDE) stereotest (measures how well your child's eyes work together as a team) were not a problem, Mia got shy during the distance vision test. After a strong start naming all the shapes, she wouldn't even whisper them to me. This isn't uncommon and because we haven't seen any other vision issues, we'll just try again next year.

Happy Birthday, Mia!!
Happy Birthday to our wonderful little girl!
We started off the day with a little fun in the birthday dress that Grandma made for Mia.
And then, Mia's friends from preschool came over for some cake and ice cream before heading over to the Chinquapin Soft Playroom.
(Instead of traditional cake and ice cream, Mom made cupcakes inside ice cream cones and put a scoop of ice cream on top.)
Sorry about the lack of playroom pictures, but we were just having too much fun!
